It's natural to want to avoid tough topics. They can offend; we might face backlash - but what good does that do for our students?
Exposure to controversial issues is an absolute must in education. If we want our students to be able to make better decisions, to build vital skills - like critical thinking and communication - they must learn how to have civil conversations with one another even if they don't agree. Our goal is to help educators approach and navigate tough topics.
The 4 A Better Tomorrow podcast - hosted by Brian Deters and Don Sturm - offers a thoughtful look at how we can learn to talk about tough topics in the social studies classroom. In a search for civility - and solutions - Brian and Don use their expertise from the classroom and the campaign trail to explore the current issues that are important to us all.
